Appointment Scheduling Tips
Many QARR measures involve patient visits. Because timing of services is so important in QARR, how these visits are scheduled can affect performance rates. Moving appointment time frames even slightly can make all the difference in whether a service is performed timely and, therefore, whether it counts as performed at all.
- INITIAL PRENATAL VISITS: establish EDC and attempt to schedule so that the date falls within the first trimester, if possible.
- POSTPARTUM VISIT: Give appointment between 3 and 5 weeks, so that if the appointment is not kept, there is time to reschedule prior to the 8 week deadline. Remind the patient to schedule her 1st newborn visit.
- NEWBORN VISIT: Schedule for 2 days to 2 weeks after delivery. Confirm that she has a scheduled postpartum visit.
- WELL CHILD VISITS: Schedule to ensure immunizations are given timely.
- 6 Months: On or after the 6 month birthday if the 3rd Hep B is to be given.
- 12 Months: On or after the first birthday so the MMR, VZV and HiB can be given.
